Can We Talk?

Autumn Musings

Yesterday was a lovely autumn day, cool, crisp, sunny.  I marvelled at the autumn leaves, many still clinging to the maples.  Some still green.  Other trees were bare and still others were still going strong with some of the branches in red and gold and others in greens and yellows.  Like the song goes in “September in the Rain”.  However, it’s mid November and this is Canada.

Global warming?  Perhaps.  What can we do about it?  Not much, if anything.

We’ve been complaining for years about the smog, pollution, and the pigs that litter.  I remember going for a walk along Burnhamthorpe right by the Library.  Two SE Asian men were standing on the building’s walkway, talking.  One of them held a Styrofoam cup with what I presume was coffee.  Suddenly, he just flung it on the sidewalk, like it was one great big garbage can.  I yelled at him “hey, pick up that cup and put it in the trash container”  He said “OK, OK, OK.”  After all, the trash bin was right there by the bus stop and that lazy pig just tossed it.  That shows lack of respect.  Maybe where he comes from, that is normal behaviour.  Not here.

I don’t give a shit if I’m “politically incorrect”.  If you act like a pig, you’ll be treated as such.

Now, back to my beautiful autumn leaves.

Soon, winter will be upon us.  I don’t care.  I prefer it to summer – all but the ice.  I can do without icy roads and sidewalks.  But, you have to take the good with the bad.  Else, live somewhere where there is no winter.  Summer, for me, is too hot and humid.  Forget hair or makeup.  I look a wreck all summer long.  And that relentless heat.

Oh well, like I said, you have to take the good with the bad.  Besides, where could I move to?  I’d have to go for altitude in order to avoid the heat.  There are no mountains in Ontario.  I’d have to move to BC.
